When she said my fibroids was causing the pain so I will be discharged, I sat on that hospital bed so confused. I looked at her and said "I have what!!!!!". ok, ok, ok, so let me back up a bit before going forward.

Last Friday (9/15-16/18) after excruciating heart pulsing sweat running down my face pain on Thursday night, I went to the emergency room at Kings Brook Jewish hospital (I am in Brooklyn NY). I thought it was my appendix because I had dealt with an enflamed appendix a few months prior you can read about that experience in my blog post "Thank God it did not pop". So when I went in that was all I thought about. They tested everything (They were thorough) from urine, blood, cat scan, sonogram, chest x-ray, EKG, I mean everything.

After the second doctor said to me (had a shift changes) "my fibroids was causing the pain" I was lost, confused and annoyed all at the same time. By the way Doc. What is fibroids? (Don't laugh I did not know what it was). She explained that they were benign tumors (Not cancerous) that grow around the uterus. Next question I ask is "how did I get them & how do I get rid of them". I then was referred to their GYN clinic.

Are you serious Lord? I have what? As if panicking about a hernia (Got that after my first son) & an appendix was not enough, we now throw a few fibroids in the mix. What is going on. I had to throw my frustration tantrum. Now it time to learn about this fibroid thang. Especially since it seems to affect 80% of colored women. Why was I not taught about things like this before? why is it not something we discuss in the prevention conversation. Pardon me but I was a bit annoyed.

As I started to google (I love Google) to get more information on this thing called fibroid, I became nervous. Women actually had to have their womb removed because of it, it caused anemia in women, it stopped some women from the joy of reproduction, painful intercourse, it's the reason for the painful menstrual cycles with the huge clots of blood (personally experienced this) Extreme crippling pain (which I know all to well) and a host of other experiences.

Well this baffled me because, as a woman I felt that this was something that should be discussed among women, at women's conferences, at the ladies nights, older family members sharing with the young, things like that. not sure if it's being done in your groups or families but it had not been done with mine.

So here I am sharing, I learned that they (Doctors) have less invasive surgeries than an entire hysterectomy (Having the entire womb removed). Also I learned that women were shrinking them just by changing their diets in an extreme way. Paying attention to the ingredients in their lotions, makeups, hair products etc. cutting out soy, most if not all meats because of the hormones. Staying far away from soy products (which seems to be in everything) anything that would increase estrogen in the body. Most of all they focused heavily on learning how to manage stress and reduce stress in their lives.

I have chosen to go the healthy way to shrink the 3 fibroids that I have. Along with prayer and a lot of meditation. Balancing a bit more, aiming to reduce stress. Avoid the need for cutting because some people cut and then it grows back. So I aim to learn how to shrink and totally eliminate it out of my body while learning how to live in a way that they will not return. I plan by the grace of God to overcome this battle.

I will continue to blog about this new addition to my life's journey, along with all the other things that I will learn, grow through, overcome and experience. Please do your own research about this as will I. Take care of you. Be blessed!
